Planning to visit Amrita as a Alumni...?? *Beware*.. The De-MEN-tor awaits you..!! "Look around the Campus! Look!" "It's your Teacher!" "I'ts your Warden!!" Nooooooooooo.... "It's the De-MEN-tor!!!!" BEWARE.. for HE WIL COME... deprive U of ur love .. ur feelings.. or. whatever thats left in u towards what we call our SECOND HOME... OUR COLLEGE.!! I am writing this post on behalf of my friend Ashwin Menon S (ECE 2005-09) who had to face an ordeal at our college campus on Friday (25/02). We always feel proud of our alma mater and feels an attachment to the place since the college and ashram environment has shaped our personal and professional lives and is a large contributing factor to all success we have today. This motivates us to visit the campus and our teachers often even in our busy schedule. He planned to visit the campus that day - choosing this day since the teachers will be relatively less loaded since it is Amrita kalolsavam and also that he could enjoy some of the programs. However while he was There, *Mr. A R G Menon* confronted him and seeing that he was not Having an identification card, asked him to go out of the campus. He tied to make him aware of the situation very politely and expressed to him that he Is an alumni and a ex-faculty and has come to visit our teachers. However, Mr. Menon was not willing to listen to him and was using language and behavior not befitting social conversation let alone a professor and a person working closely with Amma.Mr. Menon even repeatedly told that he will "KICK" him out and tried to threaten him telling that he will use force or even call the police. Mr. Menon was shouting at the top of his voice which attracted a crowd including his previous students. We always respect and look up to our teachers as role models. We had tried our best to create that impression among our students too. However, Mr. Menon was treating Ashwin as if he is an anti-social who wander in the streets, embarrassing him in front of his students. Ashwin was surrounded by three security personnel, a brahmachari and Mr. Menon himself without any provocation what so ever from his side and the whole squad followed him to the staff room to let him drop the sweets he brought for his ex-colleagues and teachers. There has not even been a single incident of disciplinary action taken against Ashwin in the course of his five year stay at Amritapuri and there has been no provocation what so ever from Ashwin's side neither to trigger nor to worsen the situation. However, Mr. Menon was acting as if out of personal grudge rather than his concern for the well being of the students or the college. I understand that when an event like Amrita kalolsavam happens , there can be numerous incidents that could occur and that all involved should be vigilant and try and avoid any mishaps. However I am not understanding the logic behind taking a blanket decision and not being ready to make even a social conversation. All of us may not be able to handle pressure equally like the Mahatmas, but a person like Mr. Menon in a responsible position should at-least make a honest effort to project a better image since it directly represents the college and the Ashram. I am deeply hurt by how the alumni is welcomed back home and this makes me ask a question that I never expected to ask my entire life - "what PROCEDURE should I follow to get into my second home?" I am writing this post to inform Current and Future the Alumni of Amrita University that, this is how we are going to get welcomed.. Better be Legally secured before you enter the CAMPUS..!!! I Re-post and add your on ARG-u-MEN-ts on this Issue..!!
